Our story

THIS IS OUR STORY

Meet Nkatha:

Hi everyone! My name is Nkatha and I was born in Kenya and mostly raised in the US (shout out to my fellow TCKs)

I am a first-year neuroscience Ph.D. student at Northwestern University. I completed my undergraduate degree at Kalamazoo College in Biology with a Neuroscience concentration. During my time in undergrad, I performed on-campus research focused on Alzheimer's disease and I did research at the National Institute of Aging (NIA) for two summers.

After graduation, I moved to Chicago to be a part of the Postbaccalaureate Research Education Program (PREP) at Northwestern University for 1 year. There I performed neuroscience research. That is also where I met Faith and the rest is history!

Outside of lab, I like to read, play the piano and spend time with friends/family. I am also enjoying volunteering and I am passionate about scientific outreach geared towards providing more opportunities for young POC to engage in STEM.

Meet Faith:

Hey all! My name is Faith! I am a proud Afro-Guyanese woman! I am a first-year Neuroscience Ph.D. student at Mount Sinai School of Medicine.

I am a recent graduate from Fairleigh Dickinson University where I earned my B.S. in Biochemistry and fell in love with research. During my undergraduate career, I was heavily involved in research and was a member of the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation.

Outside of the lab, I am interested in mentorship and outreach and the advancement of underrepresented people in STEM. I hope to inspire and influence young Caribbean boys and girls who may believe that their dreams are unattainable because of where they come from!
